Using More Than One Area Rug

by Kylie Stone

With many people making the switch from wall to wall carpeting to wood floors and tile, there is more of a need than ever for area rugs. But many people think that they can only have one area rug per room or that they all have to match. This is not true. Having several area rugs of different designs in your rooms will give your home that eclectic look that most folks find appealing and cozy. Using multiple area rugs in a room has become an acceptable fashion trend and is featured in many homes. You should consider the colors, the styles of the rugs as well as the use when you use multiple area rugs in your home.

Using color in home decors manages to frighten many people, although it is really very easy to do. Simply choose three colors that you like and gravitate towards them when you are choosing furnishings, fixtures and area rugs. By sticking with the same color scheme throughout your house, your decor will look pulled together. You should always stick with colors that you like and not the hot colors of the day, as at the end of the day you will be the one to look at them.

For area rugs’ style, dissimilar is acceptable as long as there is another element that complements each other. color is an important one to consider. Black and whites are a classic but there are other tones that match surprisingly well with other brights and darks as well. My personal favorites are the combinations of yellow and green, red and white, two different shades of pink, and black and orange for the funkiest look of all. Take advantage of the availability of colors in choosing the rug style. Oriental rugs and modern rugs can blend nicely together given the right shades. A longer area rug fits just as well with a shorter one if they have similar designs or one common tone. And the possibilities go on…

Also consider use. Area rugs should be placed under tables, walkways or entrances to rooms. In kitchens and bathrooms, area rugs are placed where people tend to stand. In order to use multiple area rugs in one room, place them in areas where they are functional so that the room will look pulled together. Thin rugs can be placed in walkways or between rooms while larger rugs can be placed under furniture.

In addition to using multiple area rugs as floor coverings in your home decor, do not forget the fact that you can also use some rugs as wall hangings. Large rugs are often ideal when it comes to covering large wall areas where a picture would seem out of place. Use your imagination when it comes to using area rugs – they are not just for walking on.

Once you get used to using multiple area rugs in your home, you will start to notice the dramatic difference that these rugs make in your home decor and how easy they are to use in decorating your home. Multiple area rugs add style and sophistication as well as warmth to any home they grace.

Keep up with current Home Design styles and enhance your home with oval area rugs that complement any decor.
