Shag Area Rug: Not Still Stuck In The 70’s

by Tim Paulson

A shag area rug is a great way to make an otherwise boring room more fun, or to accentuate a colorfully decorated room’s charm. For the past few decades, carpeting and rugs made of shag sort of disappeared but these days they are coming back to homes across the country. Now more so than ever there are whole rainbows of colors to choose from, as well as qualities, shapes and sizes. The shag rug might have a bad reputation, but that was in the past: today they are one of the most popular types of rugs you can get.

Shag carpeting is generally a bit sifter than other styles because of the way they are made. Instead of very small strands of carpeting, they have large ones to make a softer feel to the touch. What they have in comfort is amazing, but they are some of the most dust-collecting rugs out there. Both dust and dirt can easily get ground into a shag rug’s material. So before purchasing keep in mind that if you want your shag area rug to continue to look good, you are going to have to clean it every once in a while.

Shag rugs or carpets could make a boring room much more noticeable and exciting. Depending on color a shag rug could give any sort of accent to a room, and in that they have really come a long way from what they were initially thought of as. You can really work these rugs in to work with any room decor, even in rooms that you would otherwise not put down any shag carpeting. The possibilities to today’s shag rugs are limitless.

If you just look around, you can find shag area rugs just about anywhere, but you might have some difficulty finding some that are unique. In most cases, you will find some that are beige and oval or circular in shape, or those that are obnoxiously bright. Beige works in any room, and bright colors are popular with children. If you’re looking for a little bit more variety you are going to have to take your search online.

There are websites dedicated solely to shag carpets and rugs, so the internet will make your search quite a bit easier. You can even find some that produce and sell very high quality rugs, so you know that you will not be wasting your money on an inferior product.

Yesteryear’s shag rugs are out, and today’s down-to-earth varieties are in. You can use a shag area rug to accent any room, and to give it a unique touch that you would not be able to get otherwise. If you have not felt what shag is like, it is about time that you have tried something new. Shag carpets and rugs have gone through a lot, but they are yet again coming to the main stage of interior design.

Area rugs look great in any part of the home. Looking for the best? If you want the softest you can get, you want to take a look at a shag area rug or two.
