Always Choose Cleaning Alternatives

There are several reasons to eliminate the use of harsh chemical cleaners. In addition to the fact that we do not want to spend time cleaning, these items cost a lot of money and our budget is stretched tightly as it is. We are all aware of potential damage to the environment which is very important these days, as is the health of our family, of course!

When we go to the supermarket and scan the shelves, few of us stop and think how almost all of the solutions presented there are toxic, can damage the environment, the surfaces to which we apply them or even ourselves. Surely, they do carry written warnings but we tend to ignore them or not to read them, in any case. Rather than mess around with these dangers, we should consider natural cleaning alternatives and options that help to prevent the mess in the first place.

Borax is one of the natural cleaning alternatives to the use of bleach. For some reason, over the years, we have been ingrained into thinking that bleach is a cure all for everything and once applied will instantly sanitize. Don’t forget that it can be very corrosive and very dangerous if ingested by a human. Another alternative is hydrogen peroxide which is much more tolerable than bleach.

If you have stubborn stains, such as mold or mildew patches in your garage, don’t turn to commercially available products right away, rather try vinegar with Borax and water. Alternatively, consider baking soda and dish soap that can be formed into a paste and applied to these areas.

A combination of preventative measures can be used to help prevent a mess from occurring in the first place. That way, when you also consider cleaning alternatives you will be highly efficient. Absorbent pads can be placed beneath the barbecue grill on your back patio or underneath your car in the garage and combined with absorbent mats. This combination will ensure that you take care of oil leaks, spills, street residue and rainwater and avoid mold and mess formation.

Clogged drains can be a real problem, but you do not have to turn to commercial cleaners to fix the issue. Boiling water, baking soda and vinegar should be poured down the drain and the foaming action will tell you that you are achieving the same result as if you had picked up those commercial options.

If you use a little initiative and forward planning, you can cut down on the time, effort, expense and consequences of cleaning. In your garage, make sure that when the car comes in from a rainy day, absorbent mats catch all the moisture. These mats are amazingly resilient, can absorb gallons of liquid at any time, will not leak and will not slip. Don’t worry about cleaning up stains, such as mold or mildew, or damage to wooden cabinets.

Try your best to be environmentally friendly and think of cleaning alternatives all the time. Try and eliminate those easily available chemical cleaners by substituting with regular household items. We don’t want toxic residue to be washed into our waterways.
